SPEECH & DRAMA

There is a wide variety of classes available in this section, from the more traditional; poetry, prose, acting and public speaking, to modern classes which allow for industry preparation and spontaneity in performance, such as improvisation and storytelling. We also have a new self tape class (see digital section), which allows for feedback from industry professionals in the art of digital performance.

PUBLIC SPEAKING

Competitors will be required to speak on a subject of their own choice.

GROUP CLASSES

SD43 GROUP DRAMA (any age) (Max 15 mins)

Minimum 3 performers. Any scene from any play (including Shakespeare)

SD44 GROUP SPEAKING (any age) (Max 10 mins)

Minimum 6 performers. Prose and/or verse. Own choice programme.

SD45 GROUP MIME (any age) (Max 7 mins)

Minimum 3 performers. Any style accepted.

SD46 GROUP THEME (any age) (Max 20 mins)

Minimum 6 performers. The group will develop a theme using a combination of at least 3 elements of the following – Verse speaking – Group speaking – Prose – Drama – Mime – Music - Movement

Copies of poems may be obtained from Secretary. Competitors need not obtain permission to perform Own Choice pieces, as both set and own choice selections are covered by an arrangement with the Authors’ Licensing & Collection Society for which entry fees include the cost. This does not apply to Duologue or Group Presentation for which permission must be obtained.

Please note that competitors who run over time may be penalized.

Own choice pieces must be age appropriate and without offensive language.
